The Women’s Sector of the *Sudanese Community Refugees Sustainable Development organization (SCRSDO)* launched the 16-day activism against gender-based violence in the organization’s hall in Kawempe on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
The event included awareness, psychosocial support, and recovery sessions in which a number of women, girls, and men participated under the slogan “No Excuse for Violence against Women and Girls”
*Mr. Saad Al-Din Abdel-Majid Elias* , the executive director of the organization, initiated a discussion about international covenants and agreements and decisions related to women, emphasizing that women’s rights are obtained through stakeholders. He also explained the differences between international law and national law in implementation. He emphasized the organization’s interest in women’s legal rights in particular.
In the same context, *Dr. Noha Youssef* provided insights on UN Resolution 1325 and stressed the importance of raising awareness about the resolution for protecting women in times of conflict and peacebuilding, pointing out the humanitarian situations in Sudan and what women are subjected to such as rape and trafficking. She emphasized the need to make efforts in raising awareness, organizing, and building networks to advocate for women’s issues.
*Ms. Mahasen Atim* , a social activist, spoke about concepts of gender-based violence, its forms, types, and mechanisms for eliminating all forms of discrimination against women. She presented pathways for laws opposing violence against women and achieving gender equality. In the final part of the event.
*Ms. Zeinab Khalid* conducted a recovery session for participants, which was well received and appreciated.
