We started the crochet basics training at SCRSDO organization on Monday, January 22, 2024, with a distinguished group of trainees, representing the second group in the series of crochet basics training sessions. The training program is part of various initiatives for the development of women and communities among Sudanese refugees in Uganda, aiming to empower each trainee with sufficient skills for future self-sustainability.
Despite the short training duration, the trainees have reached an excellent level of proficiency in skills, with each becoming fully competent in the basics and capable of further development through continuous practice.
Workshop Topics:
Types of needles, threads, correct needle grip, and chain stitch
Single crochet, slip stitch, and half-double crochet stitches
Double crochet with four wraps, along with pattern reading skills
Practical applications on phone cases, headbands, and bags
Practical applications on granny squares, circular bases, squares, rectangles, increasing, and decreasing
Field visit to crochet supplies markets for training on yarn types, pricing, and packaging, in preparation for the first graduates’ bazaar.
