As part of the ICLA project aimed at creating a safe and protective environment for populations affected by displacement and asylum in Uganda, a group of non-governmental organizations—UCLF, SCRSDO, and REFUGEE LAW PROJECT—organized an educational awareness seminar funded by NRC and the European Union. The seminar was held in Luweero District, Bombo Town, at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
The event witnessed a large turnout of refugees, human rights activists, and representatives of humanitarian organizations. It focused on raising awareness about laws related to refugees, their rights, and responsibilities in the host country. Key challenges affecting refugees’ lives were highlighted, especially issues related to identification documents and birth certificates, which are vital for facilitating refugee integration into the local community and accessing essential services such as education and healthcare.

The seminar also addressed topics such as involuntary manslaughter, rape crimes, rental disputes, and prison-related issues. Organization representatives warned refugees against interfering in state affairs, particularly political matters that are directly linked to national security.
Detailed information was provided on how to report these crimes and access legal and psychological support.
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, during which attendees expressed appreciation for the efforts made to raise awareness about refugee issues. The importance of continuing such initiatives was emphasized to enhance legal knowledge and rights awareness, contributing to the improvement of refugees’ lives in Uganda.
