Women Empowerment: as part of the partnership

Through mental wellness programs, strengthening bonds and support among women by creating safe spaces for them, and Tusitukirewamu Org. hosted a delegation from SCRSDO at its headquarters in Kampala, Bwaise Office to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at empowering refugee women through vocational skills development and gender-based violence (GBV) mentorship programs.

The SCRSDO delegation included the Executive Director, the Programs and Media Officer, and the Women’s Affairs Officer, while Tusitukirewamu was represented by its Executive Director.

The meeting focused on shared areas of interest, particularly:

Women’s Economic Empowerment through Tailoring Training
Providing refugee women with practical tailoring and garment-making skills to enhance their self-reliance, create income-generating opportunities, and strengthen their economic independence.

GBV Awareness, Prevention, and Mentorship
Supporting women through mentorship programs that promote awareness of gender-based violence, strengthen resilience, encourage positive coping mechanisms, and provide safe spaces where women can access guidance, support, and information on their rights and available services.

Both organizations described the meeting as constructive and reaffirmed their commitment to empowering refugee women. They agreed to continue discussions and develop a joint initiative that combines tailoring skills training with GBV mentorship, creating a pathway for women to build confidence, achieve economic independence, and become active leaders within their communities.
